Joseph, spot on! As an old guy who has tried to keep feet in both the local church and scholarly worlds I often been doubly disappointed . You are correct the dynamic of the local church and its messiness is where theological reflection must be rooted. I am increasingly unimpressed with scholarship which is more beholden to academic guilds that folks in the pew. That goes for Pentecostal scholars as well.
